1. Summary

This product bulletin announces that all FAS250 and FAS270 systems ordered starting May 8, 2006 will be RoHS compliant.

What is RoHS? The European Union created the RoHS Directive, EU Directive 2002/95/EG, which will go into effect on July 1, 2006 in Europe. This directive mandates that electrical and electronic products put on the market within the European Union (EU) shall contain restrictive levels of certain substances.

2. What's New?

1.       All FAS250 and FAS270 systems ordered starting May 8, 2006 will be RoHS compliant.

2.       Non-RoHS compliant FAS250 and FAS270 systems will not be offered after May 7, 2006.

3.       On RoHS compliant FAS270 systems, both Fibre Channel ports on the head have been changed. (Please see picture in section 5.)                                                             - Port 0b, the shelf expansion port, has been changed from a copper HSSDC2 connector to a copper SFP connector. When customers order DS14Mk 2 expansion shelves configured with the RoHS compliant FAS270, they will automatically receive the x6530 (.5) meter SFP to SFP cable.

  - Port 0c, the tape back-up and SAN attached port, has been changed from a built-in optical SFF connector to an optical SFP connector. This has no effect on cabling configurations.

4.       On RoHS compliant FAS250 systems, the only Fibre Channel port on the FAS250 head is port 0c, which is only used for tape backup. Port 0c on the RoHS compliant FAS250 has been changed from a copper HSSDC2 to an optical SFP connector. (Please see picture in section 5.)

5.      The labels on the back of the RoHS compliant FAS270 and FAS250 heads will now be monochromatic. (Please see picture in section 5.)
